Coordinators Hope Residents Say 'I do' to Wed Local

Tickets are now on sale for a first-ever Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce wedding expo that intends to showcase local wedding services.

Soon, wedding bells will be sounding all over Chicago.

And tickets are officially on sale for a local event looking to capitalize on wedding season—and people planning their nuptials, in general.

The Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce is launching its new "Wed Local" campaign, which includes a May 19 wedding expo at Double Door, as well as a printed wedding guide and a wedding directory on the organization's website.

"It's really to highlight what we can offer people who are planning a wedding," said Clover Morell, the chamber's special events coordinator, when the group first announced the event. "It's hard to find information about what wedding services are available in Wicker Park and Bucktown, so we're really going to showcase that information."

Chamber Executive Director Adam Burck said there has been a recent trend of neighborhoods working to draw lucrative wedding industry business to local retailers.

"People drop a good amount of change on weddings," Burck said at the Jan. 16 SSA Commission meeting. "And it's become something a lot of areas are doing, is these expos. In Ravenswood there's Indie Wed."

Wed Local expo participants include Alliance Bakery, Big Star, Chicago Vintage Weddings, Fotio, Geno Images, Gilded, JGM Makeup, Tweedle Press and more.

"There's going to be a fashion show utilizing some of the businesses who have provided things for the photographs in the guide," Morell said. "We'll have live DJs spinning at the event, and samples, different food provided by different caterers and bakeries, and hopefully there will be a chocolatier."

Tickets for the expo cost $10 and are available online. It will be held at Double Door on May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
