Gas Prices Rise; Bucktown's Surpass U.S. Average

Most drivers have noticed this month's rising price of gasoline.

CNN Money reported Monday that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in America has increased to $3.73—more than 13 percent during the past 32 days. And the cost of filling a 15-gallon gas tank in the Bucktown and Wicker Park areas is $7.16 more than it was one year ago, according to AAA Fuel Finder.

As of Thursday morning, gas prices in the community were looming around $4.29, though some were as high as $4.49. At $3.99 per gallon, the least expensive gas in the area was being sold at Roscoe Village's Speedway, 3354 N. Damen Ave. 

CNN Money is crediting the price increase to a combination of factors, including rising crude oil prices, production cuts and refinery closings. 

The Chicago Tribune reported a number of refinery issues last week that affected gas prices, including an overhaul of BP's Whiting refinery and a fire at a site in Ohio.

AAA predicts local refinery issues will continue to push gas prices up in the months to come, according to the Tribune article.
