The Tigers started the game on defense and immediately set the tone with a pass
break-up on the first play and a near interception by Sunita Pate on the next play. The
home team continued to tempt fate by putting the ball in the air. Angelina Mora
intercepted a Cougar pass and returned it for the first touchdown in the history of Girls
Flag Football at Holy Trinity (future HT trivia question). Mora would score two more
times on long runs of more than 40 yards to close out HT’s first half scoring.
Hope Shelton and the rest of the defensive line pressured the Chicago Academy
quarterback on every play, forcing multiple errant throws. Shelton recorded four sacks and
at least three tackles (flag pulls) for a loss in addition to disrupting the running game.
The Tigers’ combination of pressure defense and solid running game on offense kept
the home team from moving the ball. It was not until just before halftime that Chicago
Academy crossed mid-field. By the start of the fourth quarter, Chicago Academy
abandoned their passing game.

In the second half, Michalah Powell and Pate put their names in the score book with long
touchdown runs that broke Chicago Academy’s spirit and sealed the victory.
With 3:36 left in the game, the Cougar running back frustrated all game by the Tiger
defense, broke loss on a 65 yard touchdown run to spoil the shutout. The extra point
attempt failed, and the game ended. Tigers win!
Congratulations to the Lady Tigers on the performance. The team will be in action next
Thursday at Mckinley Park when they host Bulls Prep.
Go TIGERS!
