PHOTOS: Crews Demo McDonald's, Make Way for High-End Replacement

Construction workers took a wrecking ball Monday to a familiar community staple.

Crews demolished a three-decade-old Bucktown McDonald's Monday to make way for a new "bold" replacement that will open its doors this summer.

The restaurant has been at 1951 N. Western Ave., on the northeast corner of Milwaukee and Western avenues since 1983, company representatives said.

As construction workers took a wrecking ball to the structure—on which taggers recently sprayed "IaMcLOVIN" in white graffiti—a sign reading "Opening June 2013" was placed under the trademark, elevated golden arches.

The renovation is in an effort to improve diners' "McDonald's experience," the company's website says.

" ... Our remodeled restaurant will feature a more inviting exterior, landscaping that complements our community, an interior with comfortable lighting and contemporary color schemes that reflect the personality of the McDonald's brand, along with new furniture with natural finishes," it says, adding that those interested should check back for updates.

The targeted completion date for the project is June 1.
