National Jazz Radio Favorites Anne and Mark Burnell Baby Boomer Concert July 31 Gateway Lounge

Acclaimed duo perform tribute to the Brill Building Songwriters including Carole King, Paul Simon, Neil Sedaka, James Taylor and others

National jazz radio duo Anne Burnell & Mark Burnell will perform Baby Boomer Songwriters - The Music of a Generation on Thursday, July 31, 7:30pm at the new Gateway Lounge in the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased CopernicusCenter.org.

The evening will pay tribute to the hits that came out of New York’s Brill Building, which was a hotbed of creativity in songwriting. They will focus on the music that was written during the 60s and 70s which was performed by such artists as James Taylor, Paul Simon, Bobby Darin and many others. From the Carole King Tapestry album to the 70’s pop classic Love Will Keep Us Together, the Burnell’s are taking listeners for one fun ride.

In its heyday in the 1960’s there were over 165 music businesses in the Brill Building. The writers; Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Burt Bacharach Hal David, Neal Sedaka, Howard Greenfield, Cynthia Weil, Barry Mann, Doc Pomus, Mort Shuman, Jerry Lieber, Mike Stoller, Carol Bayer Sager, producer Phil Spector, the singers; Mama Cass, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, Bobby Darin, Ben E. King and the Drifters, James Taylor, Paul Anka, Dionne Warwick, Jim Croce, Paul Simon and so many more.

Presented by award winning Chicago performers Anne and Mark Burnell and their band will bring tight harmonies, and their unique piano jazz arrangements to these treasured songs. They will be joined by Glenn DeMichele on bass, and Bob Rummage on drums.

Singer-songwriter Anne Burnell has been praised as “a singer of glorious gifts” by the Chicago Tribune and WGN Radio’s Steve Dale who said, “You have one of the greatest voices, it’s so sweet, and it’s not changed over the years”. While her multi-talented, singer-arranger-pianist husband was awarded Music Director of the year (2025) by Chicago Cabaret Professionals, Mark has been lauded for his musical versatility with Chicago Jazz Magazine saying “he uses his skill and instincts as a jazz improviser to adapt to any situation.”

Named “Chicago’s Top Ten” for two consecutive years by New York’s Cabaret Hotline, Anne and Mark have delighted audiences in Bern, Zurich, Paris, Freiburg, Geneva, Jamaica, Panama, and Amsterdam. Their tour have taken them to New York’s Don’ Tell Mama’s, St. Louis’ Blue Strawberry, Wisconsin’s Plymouth Jazz and Blues Crawl, the Sarasota Jazz Festival, The Reserve Retreat and Jazz at Two in Sarasota. But it’s in Chicago where they have made their huge musical imprint, performing at some of the Windy City’s top spots including Davenport’s, Skokie Theatre, Park West, Drury Lane Water Tower Theatre, Tortoise Supper Club, WDCB Jazz at the Logan, Le Piano and Signature Room. They have also performed the National Anthem for the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Chicago Fire, Arlington Park, and Special Olympics.
