Parking: Local Streets to Avoid this Winter

While Bucktown and Wicker Park aren't enforcing overnight parking bans, be aware of streets that are considered "designated snow routes," or you may be ticketed.

The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has been working hard to ensure that the city is prepared for the first winter storm, and residents in Bucktown and Wicker Park should be equally as prepared when parking.

An Overnight Winter Parking Ban will take effect around the City of Chicago beginning this Saturday through Monday, April 1 from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., regardless of snow.

While the parking ban doesn't affect any streets in the immediate area, signage highlighting the ban in other parts of the city is permanently posted along 107 miles of Chicago's most critical arterial streets.

And although the overnight ban isn't in effect locally, drivers should refrain from parking on any of the 500 miles of designated snow routes when two or more inches of snow has fallen. That includes virtually every major local thoroughfare.
