Police Dismantle Gang-Controlled Drug Market on West Side

Chicago Police Narcotics Division officers dismantled a gang-controlled drug  market on the City’s West Side and charged 15 offenders in connection with the  investigation.

The narcotics-associated violence interdiction mission culminated Tuesday with the arrest of 13 targets and the seizure of a vehicle and contraband, including a firearm and narcotics.  

“Under no circumstance will we allow violent criminal street gangs to operate open-air drug markets or engage in criminal activity that threatens the safety and quality of life in our communities,” said Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy. “The successful termination of this  drug market is an important opportunity for everyone to work together to prevent the  criminal element from reestablishing a presence in the area.”  

In response to violence and complaints of narcotics activity, members of the Narcotics  Division Squad E-1 initiated a mission targeting the Four Corner Hustlers street gang in the vicinity of the 4900 block of W. Ferdinand. The investigation led to the identification of 15 targets involved in the drug market, including multiple offenders previously convicted as felons.  

The mission ultimately led to the recovery of cannabis and heroin during covert drug  transactions. Officers also were able to obtain three search warrants for properties on the  500 block of N. Lawler, 4900 block of W. Hubbard, and 5100 block of W. West End, where  additional quantities of narcotics, including crack cocaine were seized.

At the conclusion of  the investigation, a .38 caliber handgun was seized along with a vehicle used to facilitate  drug sales. Thirteen offenders were arrested for their role in the criminal operation.  Chicago Police continue to seek outstanding offenders wanted in connection with this  investigation.
