Sellers, Pickers: 'Antique & Junque' Sale Promises Prime Real Estate, Foot Traffic
Coordinators of an upcoming street sale are still looking for interested sellers. Learn how to get involved in the Wicker Park Committee's annual Antique & Junque Sale.
An upcoming Wicker Park sidewalk sale is putting the, "one man's trash is another man's treasure" theory to the test.
The Antique & Junque sale seeks to showcase the community's hidden relics and anyone—whether you're in the antique business or knee deep in a spring cleaning—can participate. It's scheduled for June 1-2 and coordinators are still on the prowl for more participants.
"We've had some professional sellers who have reserved tables, but we're really trying to reach more people in the neighborhood to be involved," said Leah Root, who's a member of the Wicker Park Committee.

A nonprofit organization, the WPC is heading up the event. Members are renting sidewalk space from A.N. Pritzker School, 2009 W. Schiller St., and offering slots to those with something to sell.

Participants must provide their own tables but can rent a space at $35 for one day or $56 for two days, Root says. Sellers keep all money from their sales.
"It's a great opportunity," she said. "They'll be a ton of foot traffic there because of Do Division (Street Fest)."
Root has enough space to accommodate 70 sellers, she said, and has received several donated items that will be up for sale including antique iron from Wicker Park and unopened painting and drawing supplies.
"It really runs the gamut from antique, picker-type stuff to items people could have in their garage," Root said. "One person's trash is another person's treasure."
