1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured In Head-On Crash In Long Grove: Police
The driver of a box truck was killed when police said he crossed into the path of a semi-truck on Route 53 and hit the truck head-on.
LONG GROVE, IL — The driver of a box truck was killed on Tuesday morning after police said he crossed into the path of an oncoming semi-truck on Route 53, police said.
Police have not yet released the identity of the driver who was killed in the crash, which took place at 10:10 a.m. on Route 53, a quarter mile north of Lake Cook Road, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators said that the box truck was north on Route 53, when, for some reason, the driver crossed in the southbound lane of the highway and into the path of the semi-truck. That vehicle was being driven by a 49-year-old Dixon man, who was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with serious injuries, police said.

Another man riding in the box truck was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition after the head-on accident, police said. The driver of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled for the driver of the box truck. The identities of the occupants of the box truck are pending.
