Amphitheater At Buffalo Grove Park To Be Named After State Senator

State Sen. Adriane Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove), the first Black state senator from Lake County, has represented the 30th District since 2020.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — State Senator Adriane Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove) is set to be honored by the Buffalo Grove Park District next month. According to officials, the amphitheater at Mike Rylko Community Park will be named after her.

Johnson, the first Black state senator from Lake County, has represented the 30th District since 2020.

"I am deeply humbled by this recognition and grateful to the Buffalo Grove Park District for this incredible honor," Johnson said. "This amphitheater has been a space for gathering, art, and connection in our community, and I am thrilled it will continue to serve residents for generations to come."

The Adriane Johnson Amphitheater naming ceremony is scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5, at 951 McHenry Road, near the Spray 'N' Play. The ceremony will be part of the National Night Out festivities hosted by the Buffalo Grove Park District. All are welcome to attend.

Community members are invited to attend the ceremony and stay for the evening's festivities, which include a live performance by The Pino Farina Band, food trucks, a business expo, free giveaways, and the chance to engage with local first responders.

According to the district, the amphitheater naming not only celebrates Johnson's contributions as a legislator and advocate, but also "her commitment to enhancing public spaces, protecting the environment, and promoting inclusivity and equity throughout the 30th District and beyond."
