Buffalo Grove Marathon Runner is Safe in Boston
Jeannette Legge was two blocks past the Boston Marathon's finish line when the explosions occurred.
Buffalo Grove resident Stephen Legge learned “like everyone else, through the news,” about the explosions at the Boston Marathon.
But he was likely even more rattled than the average citizen as the story developed. His wife, Jeannette Legge, was among the runners and he could not reach her.
About two hours after the explosions, Jeannette was able to reach Stephen from their niece’s phone. She told him that she had finished the race 10-15 minutes before the explosions. When they happened, she was just two blocks from the finish line, going through the post-run routine that includes getting food and hydration.

“She said she heard two loud explosions that were pretty close together,” Stephen Legge said. “A few minutes later, she started hearing the sirens.”
Legge said while he’s “thrilled that she’s OK,” he remains concerned about others who weren’t so fortunate.

“We’re trying to find out about some of her runner friends from the Alpine runners. I don’t think she’s heard from them,” he said.
Jeannette, who has completed the Boston Marathon four times, is scheduled to return home Tuesday, her husband said.
