The Lake County Coroner said that Rene Sepulveda, 22, died from blunt force injuries after police said he crossed into the path of a semi.

LONG GROVE, IL — A 22-year-old Island Lake man has been identified as the victim of the head-n crash this week in which the box truck he was driving crossed into the path of an oncoming semi-truck in Long Grove.

Rene Sepulveda was identified as the driver of the box truck by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy showed that he died as a result of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, the coroner’s office said.

The crash took place just after 10 a.m. on Route 53, a quarter mile north of Lake Cook Road, police said.

Investigators said that the box truck was north on Route 53, when, for some reason, the driver crossed in the southbound lane of the highway and into the path of the semi-truck. That vehicle was being driven by a 49-year-old Dixon man, who was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with serious injuries, police said.

Another man riding in the box truck was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition after the head-on accident, police said. Police said that Sepulveda was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
