Vernon Area Public Library’s branches will close for a week beginning Tuesday evening as staff members prepare to reopen the main building after more than two months of renovation.
The library has operated out of a scaled-back “library to go” in the annex building behind the library since construction began in early March. The annex will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and staff will spend the week transferring materials back to the main building.

The renovated main building will reopen May 28 with a new self-service café, a quiet reading room with a fireplace, and new dedicated areas for teens, early readers and group study. The public restrooms have also been improved. The library budgeted $1.3 million for the project, which was paid with building funds.
For a preview of the improvements, check out photos of the construction process on the library’s Facebook page.
