Champaign Fire Department Investigation Sangamon Drive Apartment Fire
There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported in the Dec. 6 incident.
The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire inside an apartment at 1807 Sangamon Drive, Sunday, December 6, 2020, at 9:51 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire that was contained to a single unit.
Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from this single-story four-unit apartment building. Once on the scene, fire crews reported smoke coming from inside an apartment. Firefighters deployed a single hose line and quickly extinguished the fire found inside a bedroom.

The cause of this fire is undetermined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. No one was home at the time of the fire. The occupants of one unit will be displaced as a result of the damage.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
