Drug Dealer Kept Pit Bull in Feces-Filled 2-By-2-Foot Cage: Cops

The pit bull was taken to animal control and the drug dealer went to jail, police said.

A raid on a Joliet drug dealer’s home turned up a neglected pit bull locked in a feces-filled 2-foot-square cage, police said.

The Joliet Narcotics Unit hit the Bridge Street apartment of Markeis McKinnis shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. An undercover officer had previously bought drugs from McKinnis, police said, and the cops obtained a search warrant for the residence.

McKinnis, 33, made a run for it, police said, but was caught a short distance from his home.

In the ensuing search, officers reportedly found crack, heroin and marijuana, as well as scales and packaging material.

Officers then headed to the garage where they found the caged pit bull. The dog was covered in feces and urine, police said, and suffered from mange. Joliet Township Animal Control took possession of the pit bull.
