Man Engulfed in Flames While Making Flowerpots: Lawsuit

The man was helping another man cut a 55-gallon drum to make flowerpots when he was engulfed in fire, the suit said.

A man was engulfed in flame as he helped another man cut up a 55-gallon drum to make flowerpots, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Oscar Torres-Perez suffered “serious burns and permanent scarring” in the May 4 mishap, the lawsuit said, as well as injuries to his injuries to his limbs, back, spine and head.

Torres-Perez was at a Crest Hill home owned by a man named Calixto Marin when Marin decided to cut up the drum so he could “construct flowerpots to be used as decorative pieces on his premises,” the suit said.

Marin asked Torres-Perez to steady the drum while he cut it with an electric saw, according to the lawsuit, which suggested sparks may have ignited flammable residue, “engulfing (Torres-Perez’s) body in fire” and leaving him seriously injured.
