Motorists: Plan Ahead to Avoid SB I-55 Lane Closures Near Channahon
Illinois Department of Transportation officials offered additional details on the project Tuesday, as well as a suggested detour.

CHANNAHON, IL – Southbound Interstate 55 lane closures may affect traffic from Tuesday to Wednesday, and state officials are urging area residents to plan their drives accordingly.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Tuesday afternoon that crews were in the process of closing the right lane on southbound I-55 over the BNSF Railroad tracks. The temporary closure was to make way for under way bridge deck repairs about 3 miles south of Arsenal Road in unincorporated Will County.
Repairs are expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news alert. The bridge is located approximately 8 miles south of Interstate 80 and 4 miles south of Channahon.

A recommended detour for southbound I-55 traffic is to head west on I-80 and south on Illinois 47 to connect with I-55 in Dwight.
"Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area," the alert said. "Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment."
