Pelosi Names Adam Kinzinger To Jan. 6 House Select Committee
The Channahon Republican will join Liz Cheney and a slew of Democrats already appointed to the committee investigating the insurrection.

WASHINGTON, DC — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has added Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, of Channahon, to the Jan. 6 select committee to investigate the Capitol riot. Pelosi first confirmed her plans while appearing on ABC's "This Week" Sunday morning television show hosted by George Stephanopoulos.
"That would be the plan," Pelosi told Stephanopoulos, when asked about the possibility of including Kinzinger to the Jan.6 committee. Kinzinger, a Republican, has long been a critic of former President Donald Trump and has called the Jan. 6 insurrection a "coup attempt."
Kinzinger later said he would accept Pelosi's appointment.

“For months, lies and conspiracy theories have been spread, threatening our self-governance,” Kinzinger said in a statement. “For months, I have said that the American people deserve transparency and truth on how and why thousands showed up to attack our democracy.”

Kinzinger will bring "great patriotism to the committee’s mission: to find the facts and protect our Democracy,” Pelosi said in a statement.
The development comes just days after Pelosi vetoed two Republican appointments to the committee made by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy responded by pulling all five of his GOP appointments, including the three Pelosi had no objection to.
In a statement Sunday, McCarthy said Pelosi's decision to reject his picks and appoint members “who share her preconceived narrative will not yield a serious investigation” and is intended “to satisfy her political objectives.”
Kinzinger and Cheney have faulted Trump as a factor in spurring the insurrection with his persistently false claims that the 2020 election was “stolen” due to voting fraud.
The Illinois Republican will join Rep. Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, as the only GOP members on the committee as of now.
The committee also includes Democrats Bennie Thompson, of Mississippi; Adam Schiff, of California; Zoe Lofgren, of California; Pete Aguilar, of California; Stephanie Murphy, of Florida; Jamie Raskin, of Maryland; and Elaine Luria, of Virginia.
