Troy 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team wins Joliet West tournament

8th graders take championship, 7th graders runners up in their category

The Troy Trojans 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team won the championship in the November Joliet West City of Champions Junior High Basketball Tournament, taking first place.

Players were Tyler Bishop, Kendall Bosby, AIden Dougherty, Franklin Foster, Luke Grevengoed, Isaac Harris, Sean Hogan, Robert Malinowski, Clinton Moon, Craig Peacock, Jack Salerno, Maurice Shelton, Lucas Simulick and Henry Young.

The coach was Clint Reames.

“I was pleased with how hard our team competed and the amount of effort they showed in the 3 games,” said Coach Clint Reames. “With only four practices prior to the tournament, I thought we did some good things on both offense and defense. It was a great start to the season to help build some momentum into conference play.”

Scores in the games Troy Middle School 8th graders played were Troy (38) vs Joliet Washington (14); Troy (46) vs Aurora Cowherd (17); and Troy (37) vs JFK Middle School (22).

“I was very impressed by the 8th grade boys basketball team at the Joliet West Tournament,” said Troy Activities Director Meagan DeGroot. “This was their first game for the season, when other teams who are not in the same conference, have been playing for a month. To walk away with the championship plaque is very impressive. I am excited to see how these young men progress throughout the season.”

The Troy Middle School 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team were runners-up at the tournament in their grade level, coached by Tyler Barker, with wins over
Washington Junior High School and Aurora Cowherd Middle School. The team lost to A. Vito Martinez Middle School.

The 7th grade team consists of Jeremy Anderson, Austin Baranak, Jeremiah Brown, Robert Douglas Jr., Koen Lynes, Jaylen McMiller, Michael Murphy, Trooper Price, Keegan Schwarting, Travis Skole, Evan Wills and Elijah Wilson.
