COVID-19 Cases Continue To Decrease In Chicago Heights

About 52 percent of the city has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — The City of Chicago Heights has been seeing a consistent decrease in COVID-19 positivity for weeks, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The health department's latest statistics on the virus show that 28 cases have been recorded in the city within this past week. According to the department, the percent change in confirmed cases in past 14 days is negative 38 percent in Chicago Heights. Since the start of the pandemic, the city has had a total of 4,545 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the department reports.

Less than half of the city has been inoculated with both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the health department, 15,757, or 52 percent of Chicago Heights residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses include 12,181 or 40 percent of Chicago Heights residents. Over 29 thousand people live in the city, Census data shows.

Cook County in general has a 1.9 percent positivity rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 287,252 Cook County residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4,782 have died. The department reports that the county currently has a substantial community transmission level.
