One Man Shot, Dolton Officer Injured During Armed Robbery

One man was shot and a Dolton police officer injured in a shootout after an armed robbery Monday afternoon.

DOLTON, IL — One man was shot and a Dolton police officer injured Monday afternoon during an armed robbery of a used-car dealership, Dolton officials said.

Addressing news media Monday, Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers said that officers were called after 1 p.m. to 519 E. Sibley Blvd. for an armed robbery in progress at a used car dealership. The dealership is near the Riverdale-Dolton border.

Police suspended their search for the second suspect around 5:30 p.m.because they believe he fled the area, CBS Chicago reported. However, the investigation is ongoing. More than 200 officers assisted in the church.

He said two men announced the robbery, then took the manager's wallet and gun. The officer saw both suspects leave the dealership and a shootout ensued. One suspect was shot in the upper thigh. According to the Sun-Times, it was not clear who shot the man. However, the officer fell to the ground after discharging his gun to take cover. It is believed he dislocated his shoulder.

Rogers said the other suspect fled the scene. He was wearing a black hoodie and khakis pants, and police said he may have discarded the hoodie.

Fox News also reported that the officer was taken Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, and that his condition is not known.
