CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β The family of a Chicago Heights woman who died in a motorcycle accident during a police chase earlier this month has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Posen police.
Octavia Harper, 36, and an unidentified man died Sept. 1 after they crashed their motorcycle during a police chase that began in Midlothian and ended in Harvey. According to the Sun-Times, the crash happened at 8:24 p.m. at 147th and Wood streets. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said both people died from their injuries as a result of the crash, and the deaths were ruled an accident.
According to attorneys for Harper's family, the high-speed chase ensued through Midlothian to Posen and into Harvey. Midlothian police stopped the chase because it was concerned about safety issues. Posen police, however, continued on.
