1 Charged Following Machete Attack In Crystal Lake: Police

A 20-year-old man faces aggravated battery charges following the Monday attack in the 500 block of Crystal Point Drive.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 20-year-old man faces aggravated battery charges for allegations he used a machete to attack two people in Crystal Lake Monday morning.

Raymond Gaines, 20, faces two counts of aggravated battery - public place, two counts of aggravated battery - use of a deadly weapon and three counts of aggravated assault in a public place, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Authorities say they were called to the 500 block of Crystal Point Drive at about 11:55 a.m. on Monday for a report of several people arguing and one person swinging a machete, police said. When they arrived, authorities learned Gaines used the blunt handle of the machete to battery two people.

He is also accused of trying to attack them with the blade.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and police are encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to call police at 815-356-3620. Anyone with a cell phone can send an anonymous tip to the Crystal Lake Police Department by texting the word CLPDTIP to 847411 (tip411).
