Man, 38, Killed After SUV Hits Curb, Lands In Pond: Police
The collision happened Wednesday morning in Wauconda.
WAUCONDA, IL — A 38-year-old man is dead after his sports utility vehicle hit a curb and then landed upside down in a retention pond in Wauconda Wednesday morning, officials said.
Rescue crews were called to the pond near the northeast corner of Main Street and Garland Road at 10:24 a.m. for a report of a vehicle that was in the water, according to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department. The man was trapped inside the 2010 Ford Edge when crews arrived at the scene.
Rescue crews were able to extricate him within 10 minutes, according to a news release. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the SUV was headed north on Main Street when it hit the curb at Garland Road and landed upside down in the pond. Rescue crews with the Wauconda Fire District searched the pond as a precautionary measure but found no one else in the water.
The identity of the man is not being released at this time. An autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.
