1 Injured After Mattress Catches Fire At Crystal Lake Hotel

The person was found unconscious in their room at the Country Inn and Suites, which sustained $25,000 damage in the early-morning fire.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — One person was injured after they were found unconscious after a fire started in their hotel room at the Country Inn and Suites early Wednesday morning, Crystal Lake fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the hotel, which is located at 600 Tracy Tr., just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon their arrival, they were told that the fire had been put out after the building’s fire sprinkler system was activated, fire officials said.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze appears to be a mattress fire, which caused about $25,000 in damage. There were no other injuries and the hotel will remain open while repairs to the structure are made, fire officials said.

The hotel manager reported smelling smoke, officials said and called 911. Crystal Lake Police told firefighters that they had removed the unconscious hotel guest from their room where the fire had started. The person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries related to smoke inhalation, officials said.

Two police officers also were treated for smoke inhalation which occurred while they were removing the hotel guest from their room. Both officers were treated at the scene.

Fire officials said Wednesday that the hotel’s sprinkler system and smoke alarms contributed to the person being saved.
