1 Killed After Becoming Trapped In House On Fire: Fire Officials

A resident of a home was found dead inside the home near McHenry and another was injured. A firefighter also sustained a minor injury.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — One person was killed after becoming trapped inside a house during a fire early Wednesday.

Firefighters with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the house in the 2800 block of Magellan Drive near McHenry at about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday and found a heavy fire on the first and second floors of the two-story, single-family home, according to a news release from the fire protection district.

Fire crews entered the home to try and rescue the person trapped inside but had to retreat due to heavy fire conditions, according to the news release.

Once conditions improved, firefighters entered again and the search resumed, fire officials said.

One person was found dead inside the home. Another resident was treated and released at the scene, and a firefighter sustained a minor injury, according to the news release.

The home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
