2 Injured In Head-On Crash Near McHenry

The collision happened in the 1500 block of River Road in unincorporated McHenry at about 7:20 a.m. Thursday.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL —Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash near McHenry Thursday morning, police said.

The collision happened in the 1500 block of River Road in unincorporated McHenry at about 7:20 a.m. when a 1996 Ford Club Wagon van headed north on River Road collided with a southbound 2010 Honda Element. The Ford was attempting to pass a vehicle in a "no passing" zone when the collision occurred, authorities said.

The crash happened near the entrance to Moraine Hills State Park.

The driver of the Ford was ejected from the vehicle and the driver of the Honda needed to be extricated from the vehicleThe driver of the Ford, a 39-year-old man from Jacksonville, Oregon, was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry and then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries that are considered life-threatening.

He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and there were no airbags that deployed.

The driver of the Honda, a 53-year-old McHenry woman, was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry and is listed in serious but stable condition.

She was wearing a seatbelt and airbags were deployed.

The investigation is ongoing and is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
