WOODSTOCK, IL — Two people have been displaced — as well as a couple dozen animals — following a kitchen fire at a home near Woodstock Wednesday night, fire officials said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to the home in the 13300 block of Davis Road in unincorporated Woodstock at about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday for the reported fire, according to a news release from the fire/rescue district. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire showing from a single-story home.

Both occupants of the home were able to get out safely, and firefighters were able to quickly put the blaze out.

Although the fire was contained to the kitchen, smoke damage throughout the home lead to the house being considered uninhabitable until repairs are made, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the two displaced residents. The home also contained several dozen animals, including cats, rabbits, and reptiles—all of which survived the blaze.
