4 Dogs Saved, 6 Dogs 'Unaccounted For' After Massive House Fire

WOODSTOCK, IL — Firefighters rescued four dogs from a massive blaze at a home near Woodstock Friday morning, but six additional dogs, which were inside the residence at the time of the fire, remain unaccounted for, fire officials said.

Several callers reported heavy black smoke coming from a home in the 200 block of South Queen Anne Road in Woodstock at about 7:50 a.m., and fire crews first at the scene found a large, two-story home fully involved with heavy smoke and flames, according to a news release from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

Portions of the home had already collapsed, fire officials said.

While battling the blaze, firefighters were able to rescue four dogs through a basement door, fire officials said. The dogs inhaled a significant amount of smoke and sustained minor burns but are all reportedly in good health.

Six additional dogs are unaccounted for. The dogs are believed to have been on the upper levels of the home at the time of the fire, according to the news release.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to get the blaze under control. The structure and all its contents are considered a total loss, fire officials said.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide any necessary assistance to the homeowners, according to the news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
