5 Injured — One Critically — In Lake County Crash
The collision happened on Lewis Avenue north of Beach Road in Beach Park Thursday evening.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 52-year-old Waukegan man was critically injured in a three-vehicle crash in Beach Park Thursday evening.
The collision happened at about 7:35 p.m. when a 2004 Mini Cooper headed north on Lewis Avenue crossed the centerline and hit a southbound 2004 Buick sports utility vehicle, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say the Mini Cooper was driving erratically prior to the crash on Lewis Avenue north of Beach Road, police said. The Mini Cooper, after colliding with the Buick, then struck a southbound 2018 GMC SUV.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, a 52-year-old Waukegan man, was critically injured and transported to an area hospital, according to a news release. An update on his condition was not immediately available.
The 34-year-old driver of the SUV, as well as three children riding as passengers in the Buick, were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the GMC SUV, a 48-year-old Zion woman, was also take to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
