9 Injured When Band Tour Van Hits Pole On Route 31

The collision happened Saturday evening in McHenry.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Nine people were injured when a band's tour bus collided with an electrical pole in McHenry Saturday evening.

One of the people injured in the collision, which happened at about 7:20 p.m. at Route 31 and Prime Parkway, was taken by helicopter to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

Eight more people were taken to area hospitals with injuries that varied from minor to severe. Firefighters responding to the collision found sparking power lines and dangerous conditions.

Police believe the driver of the van fell asleep at the wheel before the collision, according to NBC Chicago. Officials told Patch the van was transporting the band La Picosa.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
