Aggressive Pit Bull Still On Loose After 3 Injured In McHenry

"Deputies have continually looked for the remaining dog through the night and into the morning with no success," police said Friday.

MCHENRY, IL — Three people were injured, including a McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputy, and one dog was shot during a series of dog attacks that happened Thursday evening near McHenry. One of the pit bulls involved in the attack remained on the loose as of early Friday afternoon, police said.

On Friday, police provided more details into the attacks.

Police said officers and fire crews responded to reports of the aggressive dog fight, which were reported at West Huemann Drive and Stilling Boulevard near McHenry at about 5:50 p.m. Thursday, according to a post on the sheriff's office Facebook page.

The owner of the dogs told authorities she was unable to separate the dogs and was bitten while trying to do so, according to police. A neighbor also tried to help and was bitten.

Deputies arrived and found three dogs "loosely enclosed" on a front porch and two dogs corralled in a car. While speaking with the dogs' owners, the three dogs broke loose and ran toward responding deputies and fire personnel, according to authorities.

McHenry County Animal Control responded and took three of the dogs. A fourth dog remains on the loose, police said Friday afternoon.

"Deputies have continually looked for the remaining dog through the night and into the morning with no success," authorities reported in an update mid-afternoon on Friday.
