Animals Escape Large Barn Fire In Woodstock

All animals escaped from a barn and are accounted for after a fire completely destroyed the structure late Thursday evening in Woodstock, officials said.

The Woodstock Fire and Rescue District responded around 11:14 p.m. Thursday to the 13800 block of Pleasant Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived and found a working fire in a large barn, approximately 160 feet by 35 feet, to the south of the residence. Rural firefighter operations were immediately setup and a water supply was established at the road.

Because there were no fire hydrants in the area, the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated for additional water tenders, firefighters and change of quarters companies, officials said.

Several animals were evacuated from the barn before firefighters arrived. All of the animals survived and have been accounted for by the owners, officials said. No residents or firefighters were injured.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature and the barn, which suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage, is considered a total loss. Initial damage estimates were not immediately available.

The fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire and Rescue District.

Firefighters from Wonder Lake, Marengo, Hebron, McHenry, Union, Huntley, Harvard, Algonquin, Nunda, Richmond, Crystal Lake, Cary, Antioch, Barrington and Spring Grove assisted along with the MESS Canteen.
