Bernard "Ben" J. Koertgen, Jr., of Cary

Bernard “Ben” J. Koertgen, Jr., of St. Pete Beach, Fla. and Cary, passed away June 25, 2013, at Good Shepherd Hospital. 

He was born November 13, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Bernard J. and Cecelia Koertgen, Sr. 

Ben was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from Airtite Contractors. He was a devout Catholic and active at St. John Vianney Church in St. Pete Beach. He had many friends in Chicago and Florida.

He is survived by a son, Michael P. (Lynn) Koertgen, Sr.; four grandchildren:  Michael (Siria) Koertgen, Jr., Kelly (Bill) Gitzke, Laura Kastning, Ryan (Kelly Clark) Koertgen; nine great grandchildren: Zach and Brooke Hamann, Katelyn, Samantha, Grace, Billy and Joey Gitzke, Michael III and Sophia Koertgen; a sister Dolly Wilson as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Koertgen and three brothers:  Art, Jim and Bob Vanasek.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday June 30, 2013, at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary.

Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday July 1, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 410 First St., Cary.

Burial Chapel Hill Gardens West.
