Bicyclist 'Failed To Yield' For Traffic Before Being Hit By Car Near Cary: Police
The 69-year-old Cary man was critically injured in the collision, police said.
CARY, IL — A bicyclist who was critically injured after being hit by a car near Cary Tuesday evening "failed to stop or yield" for traffic before driving onto a roadway, authorities said.
The bicyclist, a 69-year-old Cary man, was critically injured in the collision, which happened at about 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday on Silver Lake Road near Killarney Drive in unincorporated Cary, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
A 2015 Honda Civic, which was headed south on Silver Lake Road, hit the bike as it entered Killarney Drive. The bicyclist was thrown from the bike and "sustained critical injuries," according to authorities.

The man was initially transported by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The intersection of Silver Lake Road and Killarney Drive is controlled by a stop sign for Killarney Drive only, and "the bicyclist failed to stop or yield before entering Silver Lake Road," police said.

The driver of a the Civic, a 26-year-old Crystal Lake man, is cooperating with the investigation, according to authorities.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
