Bruce A. Johnson, 59, of Crystal Lake; Husband and Father

Bruce Allen Johnson, 59, of Crystal Lake, succumbed to brain cancer on Oct. 21, 2013, in Barrington, IL, after a brave three-and-a-half year battle.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1953, to Delbert and Annabelle Johnson in Viborg, South Dakota.

Bruce graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in inorganic chemistry in 1976. He then pursued his masters at the University of Minnesota.

Bruce worked for the Valspar Corporation for 34 years, most recently as a technical director. During his long tenure with Valspar, he received a number of prestigious awards, as well as being named on several patents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Diane, and his three children, Drew (Natalia), Adam, and Tessa Rose. Bruce is also survived by his mother, Annabelle; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Gloria.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert.

Visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Route 176, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

The Funeral Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. There will also be a brief visitation at the church from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
