Colton Sabo, 31, died on July 29 after he was found unresponsive in his jail cell a day earlier.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The cause of death for a McHenry County inmate, who was found unresponsive in his jail cell last summer, has been ruled to be "undetermined," according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office.

Colton Sabo, 31, was taken to the hospital after he was found in his cell at the McHenry County Correctional Facility on July 28, 2023, and died the next day, according to the coroner's office news release.

The final cause and manner of death are "undetermined," officials said in a statement released last week.

Extensive toxicology testing and vitreous electrolytes did not contribute to Sabo's death, according to the statement. Sabo was diagnosed at Northwestern McHenry with anoxic brain injury and cerebral edema, but this was determined to have no significant cause to Sabo’s death.

Sabo did have a history of seizure disorder and polysubstance abuse, according to the coroner's office.
