Causes Of Death Released In Shooting That Killed 4 Near Crystal Lake

Police have ruled that three women were murdered before the shooter turned the gun on himself at the home near Crystal Lake.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The causes of death have been released in the murder-suicide at a home on Wild Plum Road near Crystal Lake that left three woman and one man dead.

The shooter, who has been identified as Jean Song, 44, opened fire on the three women at the home before shooting himself during the domestic incident early on Aug. 9, police said Friday. Police said Song was likely suffering from a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting.

The three women found dead at the home were: Chang Song, 73; Yuna Song, 49; and Lauren Smith-Song, 32.

Another woman was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. She survived the shooting and has since been released from the hospital, police said Friday.

The shooter had a valid FOID car and Illinois Concealed Carry license, according to the news release.
