Coroner IDs One Of Two Siblings Killed In DUI Crash

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified one of two siblings killed in a crash early Monday in McHenry.

Perla Tejeda, 19, of McCullom Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at McCullom Lake Road and Route 31, according to authorities. Her brother, a 14-year-old McCullom Lake boy, was also killed in the collision, police said.

The coroner's office has not released the name of the younger teen since he is a juvenile.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Fox River Grove man, Jason Land, has been charged with aggravated drunken driving charges in connection with the two vehicle crash.

Land was driving a 2006 Audi A4 south on Richmond Road when he ran a red light at McCullom Lake Road and collided with a 2015 Nissan Sentra at around 12:30 a.m. on Monday. He is accused of having a blood alcohol concentration more than four times the legal limit when he caused the collision, authorities said Tuesday.

On Tuesday, McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Lamb ordered Land remain detained while he awaits trial on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol - causing death, driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Land is a graduate of Johnsburg High School, and the two teens killed in the crash were siblings, according to media reports.

Ashley O'Herron, public information officer for the McHenry Police Department, said its not known if Land and the two killed in the collision knew each other.
