Coroner IDs Teens Killed In Triple Fatality Near Woodstock

Three people died in the head-on collision in unincorporated Woodstock Sunday afternoon.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified the two teens killed in a triple fatality near Woodstock Sunday.

Alex Gonzalez, 18, and Miguel Martinez Santiago, 17, both of Harvard, were killed in the two-car collision on Davis Road Sunday afternoon, according to the coroner's office.

Gonzalez and Sanitago were found inside a 2021 Dodge Challenger Hellcat after it collided head on with a 2022 Volvo XC 90 at a hill crest and caught fire at about noon on Sunday. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Davis Road west of Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock .

Roeder's daughter, a 7th grader at a different school in the district, was seriously injured, ABC 7 Chicago News is reporting. An update on her collision is not immediately available.

Friends of the teens killed in the collision, who have been gathering at a roadside memorial at the crash site, said the duo worked at a Harvard barbershop together.

One of the young men was described this past week as having a good heart and the other was a fan of the Milwaukee Bucks, according to the article. Juan Mercado told Shaw Local News Network he went to Harvard High School with one of the teens. Mercado said the teen inspired him to cut hair as well.

Authorities say speed and reckless driving could be a factor in the collision. Alcoholic beverage containers were found at the scene, but it is unknown if they are contributing factors at this time.
