Crews Investigate Leak Near Gas Meter After Fire At Lakewood Home
Fire, police and gas company crews all helped at the Lakewood home Saturday after a fire broke out.

LAKEWOOD, IL – The cause of a fire at a home in the 300 block of Richmond Lane in Lakewood Saturday is under investigation, according to a release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department. The fire department was sent at 11:56 a.m. Saturday to the above address, and when the first crews arrived at noon, they reported a fire on the outside of the house adjacent to the natural gas service meter, according to the release. No one was at home when the 911 call was made, the fire department reported.
Crews quickly put out the flames outside the home before going inside to check whether the fire spread, the release said. Crews found the fire spread into a first floor laundry room and smoke had spread through the first floor and attic, the department added. A thorough investigation was conducted throughout the house for any hidden fires. The fire was under control at 12:31 p.m., the department said, adding that no firefighters were injured.
According to the release, Nicor and Com Ed were called to the home, and Nicor determined there was an underground leak before the homes gas meter. Nicor scheduled additional crews to make repairs. according to the release. Nicor also shut the house's gas line off.

A representative from the Lakewood Building Department was also contacted to inspect the damage, the fire department said.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Department, and
Lakewood police also helped on site Saturday, according to the release.
