CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A baby born two days late will now have a special birthday that only comes around once every four years.
Logan William Mallon, the son of former Crystal Lake residents Carly and Dan Mallon, was born at 2:58 a.m. on Thursday, which falls on Feb. 29 — or Leap Day — this year, according to Advocate Health Care officials.
Mallon was 20.5 inches in length and weighed 7 pounds. Mallon was due on Tuesday but "held out to be a Leap Day baby," according to a news release form Advocate Health Care.

Leap Day babies are pretty rare. It is estimated that only about five million, or around 0.07 percent of the total population, have a February 29 birthday.
The chance of being born on Leap Day is one in 1,461, which is less likely than flipping a coin and having it land on “heads” ten times in a row.
