Crystal Lake Farmers Market: Bounty of Sweet, Savory Summer Offerings

Crystal Lake Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday morning by the downtown gazebo through October 12.

Today is the official start of summer on the calendar.

However, fresh fruits and vegetables have already been selling off the stands at the 2013 Farmers Market in downtown Crystal Lake.

The market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday morning (through Oct. 12) in Depot Park, located by the Metra train station on Woodstock Street.

"There’s a lot to choose from," said Diana Kenney, executive director for Downtown Crystal Lake.  "Every crop has its season. Right now, you can find all kinds of lettuce, radishes, and asparagus. Many of our vendors have items all season such as eggs, meat, honey, flowers, plants, breads, pickles, and more."

The Downtown Crystal Lake Farmers Market is an authorized market participant in the Illinois Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).  The 2013 Farmers Market has been enhanced and expanded due to the addition of a beautiful new gazebo in Depot Park.

Here are some of the fresh produce, baked items and other offerings:
