Crystal Lake Vehicle Theft Sparks Lockdown At Huntley Schools

Huntley police obtained a search warrant after people got out of the stolen car, went into a home and wouldn't come out.

Area schools were placed on lock down Wednesday morning after the Huntley Police Department was notified at 8:45 a.m. that a stolen vehicle from Crystal Lake was seen driving westbound on Reed Road coming towards IL Route 47, that left the scene of a Lake in the Hills parking stop. Police said the vehicle was believed to have left the area after it wasn't able to be located.

At 9 a.m. the same vehicle was reported to have hit a light pole at Chetwood Drive and Boudreaux Drive, police said, adding that a male suspect was seen getting out of the vehicle and leaving the scene.

According to police, a witness followed the vehicle to the area of Buckingham Drive and saw the vehicle enter a garage at a home.

Police said an attempt to make contact with the people inside was unsuccessful as they refused to leave the home, so authorities requested a search warrant to get inside the home. According to police, a handgun was found in the area where the crash involving the light pole took place while officers waited for the search warrant.

The Reed Road Campus and Learning Tree were placed on lock down after area schools were notified of the situation.
