Downtown McHenry Holiday Walk Is This Weekend

The holiday walk will kick off Friday evening and continue through Sunday.

MCHENRY, IL — The holidays will be in full swing in McHenry this weekend.

The holiday walk will kick off Friday evening and continue through Sunday. The fun and festivities will include living windows and a cocoa crawl, a parade, free sleigh rides and more.

November 17, Downtown McHenry

4 to 7 p.m.: McHenry’s downtown stores will come to life with magical scenes of the season in the store windows. New this year, those stopping out can register for the cocoa crawl and receive samples of a variety of hot cocoa and holiday treats at participating businesses. More information is available online.

The city's Festival of Trees will also kick off on Friday and continue through Dec. 29. The trees will be located inside the McHenry Recreation Center, 3636 Municipal Drive, McHenry. More information is available on the McHenry Chamber of Commerce website.

November 18, Veteran's Park activities

12 to 4 p.m.: Horse drawn sleigh rides around Veteran’s Memorial Park

12 to 4 p.m.: Come visit Santa under the gazebo. Home Depot will hand out kids build-it kits, and kids games and craft activities will be provided by McHenry Area Chamber members.

4:30 p.m.: McHenry High School Vocal Warriors will lead everyone in carols.

5 p.m.: The city will flip the switch on its holiday lights, showcasing the thousands of twinkling lights in the park and around the downtown streets.

6 to 10:30 p.m.: A free trolley will take you to all the stops along the pub crawl and those stopping out should plan to wear their pajamas. Tickets are $20 and there will be fun drink specials and a chance to win raffle prizes. More information is available online.

November 19

The Toys for Tots parade will step off at 1 p.m. from Kane Avenue and Duker and then head north on Green, east on Pearl, north on Riverside Drive and west on Broad Street. The route ends at Veteran's Memorial Park.

Those stopping out are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy that will be collected at the park and along the route. The parade includes awesome floats, musical and performing groups and vehicles and walkers
