Driver Cited In Collision That Killed Elderly Woman
Matthew Straley received a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failing to yield at a crosswalk.
MCHENRY, IL — A 37-year-old McHenry man has been cited following a collision that killed a 73-year-old McHenry woman.
Matthew Straley received a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, failing to yield at a crosswalk and disobeying a traffic control device, McHenry police public affairs officer Ashley O’Herron told the Northwest Herald.
Barnes was hit by a 2012 Red GMC Sierra at about 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of Elm Street and Oak Drive. She was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry where she was pronounced dead.

Results from an autopsy show Barnes died from blunt force injuries, according to a news release from the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
Straley was not injured in the collision.
