Edward J. Hughes, 80, of Crystal Lake; Former Nunda Township Road Commissioner

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Route 176, Crystal Lake.

Edward J. Hughes, 80, of Crystal Lake, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. 

Edward was born May 20, 1933, in Chicago, to John Vincent and Margaret (Quinn) Hughes.

Ed worked for 55 years as an operating engineer with Local 150. Ed served as a Nunda Township Road Commissioner and a precinct committeeman.

Ed was an Irishman who could always be counted on for a good joke. 

Ed is survived by his children, Denise Marie Hughes, Timothy Patrick (Ann) Hughes, Thomas Michael (Julie) Hughes, Edward James Hughes II, and Kimberly Francis (Robert) Goetz; his grandchildren, Kristy Perera, Dana Baker, John Earhart, Christopher Hughes, Tiffany Davis, Bridget, and Annie Hughes, Jennifer, Jeanna, and Jill Hughes, Zachary, Rachel, Aubrie, and Kaleb Hughes, Jessica Ribandt, Brandon and Bryan Goetz; his great-grandchildren, Alex, Tyler, Micky, Sophia, Brady, Connor, Colin, Riley, and Logan; and his significant other, Dianne Forth. 

Ed was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Hughes, and his sisters, Marilyn Braun, and Betty Rose. 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Route 176, Crystal Lake.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, at St. James at Sag Bridge, 10600 S. Archer Ave., Lemont, IL.
