Elderly Man Trapped Under Tractor In Water For Hours

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — An elderly man became trapped under an overturned tractor in water for nearly three hours Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The Harvard Fire Protection District was called to the area of Bunker Hill Road and Island Road in unincorporated Harvard at about 2:50 p.m. after a family member found the man with only his head above water and trapped under the tractor, according to a news release from the Harvard Fire Protection District.

Fire crews first at the scene were able to use chains and a heavy-duty front loader to lift the tractor enough to free the patient within 25 minutes after they arrived at the scene, fire officials said.

He was taken by helicopter to Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for further treatment. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
