An ambulance crew was on standby at the football game when they were alerted to an injured person, according to Woodstock Fire Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.

The crew initiated immediate medical attention to a male varsity football player.

The teenager suffered a serious traumatic injury while on the field, Vucha said.

Woodstock North was playing Harvard. It was not known which team the injured teen was on. The player was conscious but due to the severity of the injury, a LifeNet medical helicopter was called, Vucha said.

The helicopter landed nearby at Northwood Middle School, 2121 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock. An ambulance transported the boy to the middle school where he was transferred to the helicopter.

The teen was then airlifted in serious condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Vucha said the boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries but a further update on his condition was not available.

“The District is not privy to his medical condition once the transfer to the flight crew was completed,” he said.
