Freeze Watch in Effect Tuesday for Crystal Lake, Cary; Snowflakes Possible!
The last time Chicago saw a snowfall of at least an inch in October was on Oct. 20, 1989 when 1.8 inches of snow fell.

Crank up the heater and bring in your plants — temperatures are expected to dip below freezing overnight in Crystal Lake and Cary.Â
A freeze watch is in effect for the Chicago suburbs from 1 to 8 a.m. Tuesday with temperatures expected to dip into the upper 20s and low 30s for much of the area, according to the National Weather Service.Â
Widespread frost is expected after 1 a.m., according to the NWS.Â
There is also a slight chance that we may see some early-season snow on Tuesday with a chance of rain and snow before 8 p.m. in Crystal Lake and Cary, according to the National Weather Service.Â
"There has been some computer forecast guidance suggesting that there is a potential for some accumulating snowfall over portions of the area on Tuesday," according to the NWS. "This is certainly not a likely scenario by any means and is currently not in the official forecast."Â

Meanwhile, below-normal temperatures are expected to continue through the end of October, according to the National Weather Service.Â
Temperatures will reach a high in the mid- to upper-40s for most of the week in Algonquin and lows will be in the upper 20s and low 30s.Â
